About the event

The Theatre Architect is a new stage production by Steve Wreford, inspired by the life and love story of renowned theatre designer Frank Matcham. Set against the creation of the Gaiety Theatre in Douglas, the piece explores Matcham’s extraordinary vision, his enduring relationship with his wife Maria, and the legacy he left behind.

Blending history, romance and theatricality, the production offers a glimpse into the world of Victorian theatre design and the personal story at its heart,

celebrating both the man who shaped over 200 theatres and the iconic Manx venue that remains one of his finest achievements.
