Adult Ballet Classes

Sundays at 12pm

Join us on Sundays at 12pm in Onchan for a relaxed adult ballet class open to all, whether you're a complete beginner or just haven’t danced in a while. It’s about moving, building confidence, and doing something kind for yourself in a really supportive space.

These classes also help sponsor our free performing arts sessions for adults and children across the island so every plié is part of something bigger.

There’s a suggested donation of £5, but don’t let that be a barrier if you’d like to come but can't afford the donation, we’d love to have you anyway!

Just bring comfy clothes and a willingness to try!

Adult Ballet Classes in the Isle of Man - Movement for Every Body

Looking for something new to try? Something creative, uplifting, and just for you? Manx National Theatre’s Adult Ballet Classes in the Isle of Man might be exactly what you’ve been searching for.

Held every Sunday at 12pm in Onchan, these friendly weekly sessions are open to men and women of all ages, backgrounds and abilities—no experience required, no fancy kit needed, and absolutely no pressure. Just a warm space to move, stretch, and enjoy yourself.

Whether you danced years ago or have never stepped into a studio before, you’re very welcome here.

Why Try Ballet as an Adult?

You don’t need to be a ballerina to enjoy the benefits of ballet. Our adult classes are designed to be gentle, accessible and fun, with a focus on movement, confidence, posture, and joy rather than perfection. It’s not about performing it’s about how it feels.

Here’s what ballet can bring to your life:

Improved Posture and Strength

Ballet focuses on alignment, balance and core strength. Over time, you’ll notice yourself standing taller and moving with more ease. It’s great for your joints, your back, and your general wellbeing.

Better Flexibility and Mobility

No matter where you're starting from, ballet helps increase flexibility and joint mobility in a safe, steady way. Many of our regulars say they feel more limber, energetic, and connected to their bodies.

Mental Focus and Clarity

There’s something wonderfully grounding about concentrating on movement and music. Ballet helps quiet the mind, ease stress, and boost focus perfect if your weeks feel busy or overwhelming.

A Gentle Workout That Builds Confidence

Ballet is low-impact but incredibly effective. It builds strength, coordination, and stamina without the intensity of a gym. Plus, every small achievement whether it’s learning a new step or just showing upgrows confidence.

 A Supportive, Non-Judgemental Community

These classes are about creating a space where everyone feels welcome. No mirrors, no pressure just kind people moving together for the joy of it. It’s a lovely way to meet others and feel part of something.

Who Are These Classes For?

Everyone! Seriously -everyone. We’ve had people in their 20s and their 70s. People who danced as children, and people who never have. People who come to challenge themselves, and people who come just for the feeling of peace it gives them.

Our sessions are welcoming to all genders, all levels of ability, and all bodies. You don’t need a certain shape or size to dance. You don’t even need ballet shoes—just wear something comfy and come as you are.

If you’ve ever thought:

  • “I’d love to dance but I’m not flexible enough…”

  • “I’ve always wanted to try ballet but I’m too old / too unfit / too nervous…”

  • “I need something to look forward to in the week…”

Then this class is for you.

When and Where?

  • Sundays at 12pm

  • 2nd Onchan Scouts Hall, School Road, Onchan

  • Lasts around an hour

  • Suggested donation: £5

And here’s something lovely: all donations go towards supporting free theatre and performing arts classes for adults and children across the Isle of Man through Manx National Theatre.

So when you show up for yourself, you’re also showing up for others. Win-win!

Don’t worry about the donation if you can’t manage it right now, come anyway. We mean that. We’d rather have you in the room than not.

What to Expect

Each class includes a gentle warm-up, some basic ballet exercises at the barre (we use chairs or walls if needed), a few centre movements, and a chance to move to music in a way that feels good. It’s relaxed and encouraging, with room to ask questions and go at your own pace.

There’s no performance at the end, no pressure to “get it right”—just an hour of movement, music, and joy.

What Should I Bring?

  • Comfy clothes you can move in

  • Socks or soft ballet shoes (trainers are okay too!)

  • A bottle of water

  • Yourself, just as you are
